Our 10-frame, medium, wax-dipped honey supers are built to withstand the rough handling of the beekeeping industry! Designed and milled carefully in the USA, with 100% USA Eastern White Pine, we strive to keep our wood grading and milling quality controlled extensively.
Our 10-frame medium honey supers are the standard 6 5/8″ in depth and 16 1/4″ wide. They feature a full top joint which greatly reduces breakage, and a 5/8″ routered frame rest. Handholds with deep, profiled uppercuts are easy to grip and allow water to run off the bottom.
Millrun grade is a popular grade for sideliners and commercial beekeepers who want a more affordable, yet very durable and structural box. This grade will allow anything from our Select to Budget grades, with the exception of all knots and splits that will cause a problem structurally. There will be no holes, large splits and minimal milling defects. We attempt to keep any solid, tight knots at least 1 ½” from nailing areas. Knots are allowed within the panel as long as they are structurally sound. Knots should never be in handholds. Variation in panel width may occur due to post-milling shrinkage.
After carefully assembling and stapling these boxes, they are wax dipped to stand the test of time. The hive parts are boiled in hot wax. During that process, moisture is forced out of the wood and wax is forced in. Once wax dipped, they are completely ready to use!
Wax dipped hive components are known to last for 20 years or more with zero maintenance, and NO NEED to reapply wax later. Wax dipped hives CANNOT be painted, but instead preserves the beautiful, natural wood appearance. The wood color will steadily darken over time from exposure to the sun, but it won’t rot or deteriorate!
Our wax dipped hive components are NOT THE SAME as some of our competitors, particularly the cheap imported hives from Amazon, Temu, and other online sellers. Their so-called “wax dipping” process involves just a quick dip into a vat of warm liquid wax, which simply coats the wood, rather than impregnating the wood like our process does. Their process will require re-coating every couple of years, while ours will last for decades without maintenance.
